The legal name (first and last) and birth date on your travel documentation (passport book OR passport card OR original or certified copy of your U.S. birth certificate) must match exactly the first and last names on your valid, government -issued photo ID. The legal name (first and last names) and birth date must also match with the name and birth date that is listed on your cruise reservation. In case of a name discrepancy due to marriage, also bring along a a certified or original copy of your marriage certificate.
It is critical to understand the potential risks of traveling without a passport book:
- Emergency air travel is not possible: In the event of an emergency, such as a medical issue or family crisis, you cannot fly home from a foreign port with just a birth certificate or passport card. A full passport book is required for all international air travel.
- Getting stranded: If you miss the ship in a foreign port, you will be responsible for your expenses and for obtaining an emergency passport from the nearest U.S. embassy to return home.
- Responsibility for documentation: You are solely responsible for obtaining and presenting the correct documents. Failure to do so will result in denied boarding, and no refund will be provided.
While a passport book is not mandatory for this cruise, we highly recommend traveling with one for peace of mind and protection in case of an unforeseen emergency.
